Anna Toso – Admissions Coordinator
As the Resource Center Coordinator for Pivot Charter School, Anna enjoys all aspects of assisting with student enrollment, maintaining student records and overseeing the campus logistics. Prior to joining the PCS team, Anna was the Operations Manager for Sierra Business Council, based in Truckee, CA and was the Project Coordinator for Prosser Creek Charter School, overseeing all aspects of student records and admissions. Anna graduated from New College of California with a BA in Humanities (with an emphasis in Music Composition and Natural History) and has an extensive background in Environmental Education. In her free time you may find her hiking, swimming, enjoying the company of family and friends, gardening, or reading something new and interesting!
Liz Jones – Director of Curriculum and Fiscal Services
Liz has always loved math, and she finds happiness in teaching others. Her favorite thing about Pivot Charter Schools is the ability to tailor students’ education plans to meet their individual needs and goals. Liz grew up in the San Francisco Bay Area, graduated from UCSD with a Bachelor’s degree in Cognitive Science, and earned her teaching credential in Mathematics from SDSU. She loves rowing, music, cooking, puzzles, and backpacking.
In addition to being a part time Educational Coordinator, Liz serves as the Director of Curriculum and Fiscal Services for Pivot Charter Schools. As Director of Curriculum, she oversees curriculum and intervention programs to ensure continued student success based on each individual’s academic strengths and areas needing growth. As Director of Fiscal Services, she works with a wide range of staff and contractors to manage the financial operations that make Pivot Charter Schools possible. Liz has been with Pivot since 2010, and looks forward to serving Pivot’s students and families in many diverse ways in the years to come!
Kareen Poulsen is a 4th generation Santa Rosa citizen and graduated from Santa Rosa High School before attending U.C. Davis, where she played volleyball for four years, rowed crew for two years and still managed to receive a BA in English. After 25 years as the CFO for an Investment Corporation, she decided to pursue her dream of becoming a full-time teacher and went on to receive her teaching credential in Mathematics from Sonoma State University. She previously taught Math at Pivot, and has now moved into the role of Program Director for all four resource centers. She coaches various sports teams around Santa Rosa. She enjoys indoor soccer, the beach, scuba diving, camping, hiking, reading books and watching good movies. She is devoted to using her education and experience to help students succeed.
Candace Althen – Enrollment Coordinator
Born in California, Candace graduated Niwot High School in Longmont Colorado. She returned to California in 2011 and joined Pivot North Bay in 2012. Candace provides support to the teachers and students in many capacities including tutoring, filing, file auditing, documenting work samples, and supervising clubs such as game club, art club and spirit club.
Erika has lived in Santa Rosa off and on for the past 15 years. She moved to Sonoma County to attend Sonoma State University, where she received her degree in Sociology; she fell in love with the area and decided to make it her home! Erika enjoys spending time with her family, watching her two little boys play Little League and rooting for the SF Giants. She is very enthusiastic about the good work Pivot is doing in the community and is excited to be a part of it all by helping out the staff and welcoming the students and their families.
Rachel Gonzalez – Director of Operations
Ms. Gonzalez graduated from Chico State with a degree in English and came to Pivot Charter School as resource center Coordinator/Office Manager for the Northern California Pivot Schools. As the schools grew, she moved into the role of Operations Manager, and is now the Director of Operations. Ms. Gonzalez has enjoyed the opportunity to grow with the school and be part of the innovative process of shaping Pivot. She takes great pride in being a part of a program that offers students personalized education. She is looking forward to many more fun years with Pivot staff, students and families!
Brittany Daugherty – Director of Human Resources
Brittany Daugherty is a graduate of Plumas Charter School. She works as Director of Human Resources for all 4 Pivot schools. She enjoys traveling and reading, as well as spending time with her family and friends. She loves being a part of the Pivot team and looks forward to working with new students and families.
Shannon Mallory – Registrar
Shannon came to Pivot in 2016 after working for 6 years at Plumas Charter School in the dual role of Special Education Aide and Administrative Secretary. She is the proud mom of a charter school graduate. She feels blessed to be part of the dynamic Pivot team whose sole focus is to serve their students in an individual/personalized manner. She loves cooking, crafting, spending time with her children, dogs and family, traveling, and the great outdoors.
Nicki Orser graduated from Colorado State University with a degree in music therapy and completed her master’s degree in creative writing at California State University in Sacramento. She joined Pivot in 2016 as the Independent Study File Auditor to help support the staff in ensuring that student files are up to date and complete. She lives in Petaluma with her husband and two children.
Barbara was born and raised in New York and New Jersey and relocated to California to be near family. She earned a special education teaching credential and M.A. at Fresno State and taught special education for 18 years at Fresno Unified School District. Barbara was an adjunct professor at Fresno State University in the special education department for 8 years, preparing teaching candidates. She moved to Sonoma County to be near her two grandsons and joined the Pivot Team in the role of special education administrative assistant in November, 2016.
